Please take notice. This is the rules and manners in Japan.
When foreigners who came to Japan in the past, they use to get into the house without taking their shoes off.
They use to in the past anyway.
These days, visitors seem to research Japanese customs in advance.
I think it is thanks to the internet.
We also research foreign country’s customs before going there.
I’d say that visitors lately have much better manners than some Japanese people.
Except for some bad mannered Japanese people, we try to keep the rules and manners strictly.
“Strick rules maintain safety”
“The most important thing in our life is reputation and it is governed by rules”
Some of the people say like this.
What are the differences between “rules”and “ manners”?
“Rules”have penal regulations when people can’t keep them.
On the other hand,”manners”are about thinking about other people around you.
I see it like that.
The “manners of smoking” in the other country’s are kept strictly.
It may be complicated for smokers.
I think manners in Japan are as strict as the other countries.
Though we have many more places allowed to smoke.
Smokers can use specific places when they want to smoke.
Smokers won’t be complicated anymore.
It’s usual to give space when you take a escalator in the world.
Which side to give the other person depends on the places you are in.
In the eastern Japan, people give space on their right side,
in the western Japan people give space on their left side.
Watch them carefully.
About separate train carriages for women in Japan.
In some countries,
I’ve heard they have segregated carriages because of the religious reasons.
In Japan,we have segrgated carriages for women because of molestations.
Please don’t take segregated carriages for women if you are a man.
You might be suspicious and it would be all your fault.
We love to make a line to wait something.
There seems to be no other countries where people love to queue as Japanese people.
How long it might take dose not matter for them.
If you are interested in this, please try to join in lines.
People never break into the line.
It is not acceptable.
About the traffic lights.
The traffic lights for pedestrian and cars need to be obeyed.
Many of Japanese people will wait until the the light turn into green,
even if there is no cars.
Some don’t wait though.
Please obey the traffic light to avoid traffic accident.
It’s all up to you.
What do you think about it?
I informed about some of the rules in Japan you may need to know.
Though we have too many other manners to mention at once.
These days, many foreign people know how to use chopsticks,
since they have Japanese restaurants in their countries.
I’m ashamed to see original Japanese people using chopsticks in the wrong way.
I’m also ashamed to see Japanese people eating soup and pasta in the wrong way in foreign style restaurants.
Foreign people might say something like “Oh ! My God! “ when they see them.
When you come to Japan for sightseeing, please enjoy it without breaking rules.
